- If irritation occurs discontinue use.
- Essential oils should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Keep all essential oils out of the reach of children and pets.
- Avoid internal use of essential oils unless you are working with a a qualified aromatherapist or healthcare practitioner.
- Take caution when using essential oils on children under 5 years of age.
- Some individuals can have an allergic reaction or become sensitized to certain oils. When using an oil for the first time it is recommended to do a skin patch test.
- Do not use essential oils directly on the fur or skin of animals unless directed by a trained aromatherapist. Animals such as cats and rabbits can have toxic reactions.
- Avoid the use of undiluted (neat) essential oils on the skin.
- Do not use essential oils on or near the eyes.
- Store essential oils in a dark cool place to avoid oxidization.
- When using photosensitizing essential oils (ex. Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit) on the skin, avoid going out in direct sunlight or using a tanning booth for 12-24 hours after application. These oils are known to increase the chance of the skin getting a severe burn from ultraviolet light.
- Essential oils are highly flammable substances and should be kept away from direct contact with flames.
